This FAQ collects the practical questions that most often delay extruder gearbox selection, replacement and commissioning. The short answers link back to the detailed technical pages where the full engineering context is explained.

Selection questions

Can I select an extruder gearbox by motor power?

No. Motor power is only one input. You also need input speed, required screw speed/ratio, torque, axial thrust, interface, mounting and duty.

Can I select by screw diameter?

No. Screw diameter helps identify machine scale, but the operating point and interfaces still have to be checked.

Is a larger gearbox always safer?

Not necessarily. A larger unit may create interface, speed, inertia, cost or machine-layout problems and still may not match the required thrust or output connection.

What is ZLYJ?

A two-stage single-screw extruder gearbox family in the current CHINFAR system.

What is ZSYJ?

A three-stage single-screw extruder gearbox family.

What are SZ and SZL?

Conical twin-screw gearbox families with a reduction/distribution role for two screw outputs.

Is CFG the same as ZLYJ?

No. CFG is a separate CHINFAR high-torque single-screw platform.

Axial thrust questions

Why does an extruder gearbox need a thrust bearing?

Extrusion pressure creates an axial reaction along the screw. The thrust system transfers that load into the gearbox housing and machine structure.

Can thrust be calculated from motor power alone?

No. It is a separate load requirement and should be obtained from machine/process data or reviewed from the existing thrust system.

Installation and lubrication questions

Should alignment be checked after the gearbox is bolted down?

Yes. Mounting should not pull the driveline into alignment by force; verify the actual shaft/spline/coupling relationship in the final installed condition.

Does every gearbox use the same oil quantity?

No. Use the approved value for the exact model and keep the original unit. Volume and mass must not be mixed.

What if the gearbox uses an oil pump?

Treat the pump, filter and cooling loop as part of the lubrication system and verify operation according to the approved IOM.

Replacement and troubleshooting questions

Can the same model number from another manufacturer be installed directly?

Do not assume so. Verify the operating point and full mechanical interface.

What should I check first if the gearbox overheats?

Start with oil level/condition, circulation, filters and cooling, then continue with alignment and internal checks as needed.

Does abnormal noise always mean damaged gears?

No. Bearings, alignment, loosened mounting and lubrication problems can also create abnormal noise.
