Reliable extruder gearbox lubrication depends on more than choosing an oil grade. Oil level, delivery to gears and bearings, circulation, filtration, cooling, breathers and maintenance access all influence how the gearbox operates under sustained extrusion load.

Lubrication is a system, not only an oil grade

Correct lubrication depends on the oil, oil level, how lubricant reaches bearings and gears, the operating speed, heat generation, filtration and the condition of the cooling system. A gearbox with forced circulation should be treated as a lubricating system with a pump, flow path and heat-removal function.

Fill, level, drain and breather points

The installation should provide a clear method to fill the gearbox, confirm the operating oil level, drain used oil and keep the breather clean. These four points are basic service interfaces. Their exact location depends on the gearbox configuration and mounting orientation.

When forced circulation matters

At low shaft speeds, high thermal load or with specific bearing arrangements, splash lubrication may not provide the same oil delivery to every loaded surface. Forced circulation can provide controlled delivery, filtration and external cooling. If a pump is part of the system, its operation should be confirmed before the gearbox is placed under load.

Cooling and oil condition

High oil temperature can result from incorrect oil level, aged or contaminated oil, restricted circulation, pump problems or cooling-system faults. Start diagnosis with oil condition, level, circulation and cooling performance before assuming internal gear damage.

Do not mix oil quantity and oil mass

Different technical sources may express lubricant charge as volume or mass. Keep the original unit with the value. Never merge liters and kilograms into a single generic “oil quantity” column without a validated conversion for the actual lubricant.

Maintenance records

Trend oil condition, operating temperature, filter condition, leaks and abnormal sound over time. A trend is more useful than a single observation because it shows whether the lubrication system is changing before a failure becomes obvious.

Use only the verified/sanitized engineering figures already cleared in the final technical-document system or new CHINFAR-owned visuals. Do not recreate unverified mechanical geometry.
