Planetary Gearbox Lubrication and Mounting Checks

Lubrication is part of the installed gearbox configuration, not an accessory that can always be selected from a nominal ratio. Confirm the model-specific mounting and lubrication instructions before commissioning.

Mounting orientation

Horizontal, vertical and other mounting positions can change how oil reaches bearings and gear meshes. Confirm filling, draining, level indication and vent positions.

Oil grade and level

Fill the unit with lubricant according to the delivered configuration. Catalogue oil volumes are indicative; oil level and grade must follow the approved arrangement and duty.

Forced lubrication

Some operating and mounting combinations call for active oil circulation. Check pump selection, piping, minimum supply condition, start-up interlock and alarm response where applicable.

Thermal duty

A thermal capacity table is meaningful only with its stated mounting and airflow conditions. Do not transfer values between orientations without an approved correction method.

Commissioning checks

Confirm oil circulation, rotation direction, sound, vibration, sealing, temperature trend and fastener condition. Stop operation immediately in the event of lost lubrication or severe abnormal noise.

Maintenance record

Record model/size, mounting position, lubricant, oil level, pump condition, operating temperature, inspection date and any corrective action.

Frequently asked questions

Is a gearbox filled with oil before shipment?

Check the delivered unit and its documents; do not assume the shipping condition.

Does an oil pump requirement follow nominal ratio alone?

No. Operating conditions, mounting and the approved unit configuration all matter.
