How to Select NMRV, WP and CWU Worm Gear Reducers
Author: HUIGUANG × CHENGFA Transmission Technical Team · Updated: 2026-08-13

Do not select NMRV, WP or CWU units by ratio and centre distance alone. Confirm output torque, continuous or intermittent duty, starts, mounting direction, ambient temperature, heat dissipation and lubrication before choosing the structure and model.
NMRV is a common starting point for compact modular equipment; WP is widely encountered in established machinery and replacement work; CWU addresses industrial applications requiring a cylindrical worm arrangement. These categories are not automatically interchangeable in efficiency, capacity or dimensions.
Check that the ratio produces the required output speed, the gearbox can manage the actual torque and heat, the mounting position matches oil level and venting, and external pulleys or chains do not impose unverified shaft loads. A worm drive's possible self-locking tendency must never replace an independently engineered brake in safety-critical lifting.
