What Data Is Required for Gearbox Selection and Quotation?
Author: HUIGUANG × CHENGFA Transmission Technical Team · Updated: 2026-08-09

A usable gearbox enquiry should identify the machine and drive position, input power and speed, required output speed or ratio, torque or load data, duty cycle, mounting, shaft loads, environment, quantity and delivery requirement.
The ten basic data points
- machine name, industry and drive position;
- motor power, input speed and power supply or motor requirements;
- required output speed, ratio or cycle time;
- output torque, or the load data from which torque can be calculated;
- continuous or intermittent duty, daily operating hours and start frequency;
- load character such as uniform, light shock or heavy shock;
- foot-mounted, flanged, shaft-mounted or other mounting form and orientation;
- radial load, axial load and connection method on the output shaft;
- temperature, dust, moisture, corrosion, indoor or outdoor conditions;
- quantity, target delivery date, packing and acceptance requirements.
What to add for special tasks
For replacement work, add the nameplate, mounting dimensions, shaft details and installation photographs. For an agitator, include the medium, viscosity, impeller, shaft length and sealing conditions. For lifting equipment, provide load, travel, speed, synchronization and safety requirements. For an industrial gearbox, include interface drawings, shaft-system loads, thermal conditions and inspection scope.
Unknown fields can be marked clearly rather than guessed. The CHENGFA technical team can first identify whether an R/F/K/S, cycloidal, worm, H/B, DCY, P-series or custom solution is appropriate, then issue a focused gap list. Send the available information to sales@chinfar.com.
