What Is Gearbox Service Factor?

Service factor is a selection margin used to account for duty severity beyond nominal power and torque. It should be considered with operating hours, starts, shock load and driven-machine behavior.

What changes the required service factor?

Selection mistake to avoid

Do not choose a gearbox because its nominal torque barely equals the calculated load. The selection should reflect the actual duty and required margin.

How this applies to R, F, K and S gear units

The same engineering principle applies across the CHINFAR four-series platform, but the mechanical layout changes: R is inline/near-inline, F is parallel-shaft, and K/S are right-angle families. Use the principle to define the requirement, then select a configuration within the appropriate family.
