A correct gearbox can still fail early if the foundation, alignment, lubrication system or first-start procedure is wrong. Installation and commissioning should therefore verify the complete driveline before the extrusion process reaches normal load.

Foundation and mounting

The gearbox and driven machine should sit on a stable mounting structure with the intended datum and centerline preserved. Clean contact surfaces, remove transport contamination, confirm fastener condition and verify that the housing is not being pulled into alignment by bolt force.

Shaft and coupling alignment

Alignment errors create additional load on bearings, shafts, splines and couplings. Check the input drive and the screw-side connection according to the coupling/interface type. For twin-screw systems, the relative geometry of both outputs is part of the alignment task.

Lubrication before rotation

Confirm the correct lubricant, oil level and all required lubrication-system components before starting. Where a pump or forced-circulation system is part of the design, verify operation before the gearbox is loaded. Check that cooling-water or external cooling connections are correctly arranged where applicable.

Rotation and unloaded checks

Confirm the required direction of rotation and that the driveline turns freely. Begin with an unloaded or minimally loaded check where the machine process allows. Listen for abnormal sound, observe vibration, inspect for leaks and confirm that the lubrication system remains stable.

Increase process load in a controlled way

Do not move from first start directly to full process demand without observing the gearbox. Increase load according to the approved commissioning procedure while monitoring temperature, sound, vibration, oil condition and leakage. If a parameter changes sharply, stop and investigate rather than “running through” the symptom.

Record the baseline

A commissioning record should capture motor data, rotation, oil information, alignment status, unloaded observations and early loaded readings. These values become the baseline for later maintenance and troubleshooting.

Use only the verified/sanitized engineering figures already cleared in the final technical-document system or new CHINFAR-owned visuals. Do not recreate unverified mechanical geometry.

Should the gearbox be started before the lubrication pump?
If the approved configuration uses forced circulation, verify the lubrication system is operating before the gearbox is loaded or operated as specified by the IOM.
