Solid Shaft vs Hollow Shaft Gearbox

Solid and hollow output shafts solve different machine-interface problems. Hollow-shaft units can simplify shaft-mounted arrangements, while solid shafts suit couplings, pulleys and conventional driven-shaft connections.

Solid shaft

Often used with couplings, pulleys, sprockets or a separate driven shaft. Key dimensions include shaft diameter, extension and key.

Hollow shaft

Allows the machine shaft to enter the gearbox output. Key dimensions include bore, key/spline or shrink-disc interface, shaft insertion direction and axial retention.

For replacement work, a base size alone is not enough to prove hollow-shaft interchangeability.

How this applies to R, F, K and S gear units

The same engineering principle applies across the CHINFAR four-series platform, but the mechanical layout changes: R is inline/near-inline, F is parallel-shaft, and K/S are right-angle families. Use the principle to define the requirement, then select a configuration within the appropriate family.
